Are You Earthing?


Are you earthing on a daily basis? In addition to breathing, earthing is one of my secret weapons for recharging, restoring and revitalizing in a world that never stops. 

As you read this blog, pause for a moment, take off your shoes and socks, and go outside. Walk to the grass and set a timer for 5 minutes. Stand there. Bare feet. Eyes closed. Inhale and exhale. Slow down your breath. Imagine yourself releasing all the stress and overwhelm through your feet and Mother Earth collecting and composting it for you. 

When you come back inside, check in with how you feel. Do you feel lighter? Do you feel calmer? How does it feel to be clear? 

More about Earthing...

Being isolated from the Earth by non-conductive materials such as rubber and plastic (our shoes), as well as plastic, laminate, and asphalt (flooring surfaces) can drain our nervous system. However when we make direct contact with the surface of the Earth our bodies receive a charge of energy that makes us feel better, and fast.

Just as the sun gives us vitamins, the Earth gives us to us also. In addition to being a surface to walk, sit, stand, play, and build on, the ground gives an eternal, natural, and gentle energy to our human systems. Earthing can improve health, energy, and the quality of your sleep. Although you can’t see the Earth’s energy, some people can feel its warm and pleasant sensation walking at the beach or on a stretch grass or hiking and hearing the leaves crunch under their shoes. 

Science of Earthing...

As I shared above, most of the shoes we wear in today's culture are not ideal for maintaining or increasing our energy. The reason is that the often non-conductive rubber soles that we were nowadays insulates our bodies from the earth and its juicy energy. In ancient times, people were barefoot or wore shoes with leather soles that became conductive when they were wet with sweat from our feet. Walking barefoot or leather soles allows our feet to be intuitive, conductive systems that ground and charge the body. When we wear non conductive shoes we are disconnecting ourselves from a natural resource of energy. 

What happens in the body is that we have lots of cells with electrical charge to them. Our technology emits lots of positive electrical charge, where as nature, like ocean water, emits negative ions. 

Simply put, when there is an imbalance of electrical charge, the excess searches for another electron to balance them. In the process they steal from healthy cells, damaging them. The damaged cells need to be removed, so our immune system sends white blood cells to oxidize and destroy damaged cells. This process causes chronic inflammation which is the cause of many health disorders. This is compounded by the fact that free radical-generating substances are all around us: in fried food, alcohol, tobacco smoke, pesticides, air pollutants and more.

Our ground and earth has an infinite supply of free electrons, so when a person is grounded, those electrons naturally flow between the earth and the body, reducing free radicals. Earthing and grounding is reduces inflammation and can even prevent chronic inflammation and dis-ease states. 

How to do Earthing...

When I was working in corporate environments, flying every week, I used Earthing products while on my computer, on the plane, and sleeping. Now that I work from home most days, I make sure I go outside at the start of my day, in the middle of the day, and at the end of my day. 

So now its your turn. Go just outside and tap into the natural rhythms of the earth and its healing. Notice how you feel. I promise it will uplift your mood, calm down your nervous system, give you a dose of calm and put things into perspective.
